About Us
Acoustic Partners was founded by Managing Director, Alex Rees, a Newcastle local who has studied, worked and lived in Newcastle and the Hunter Region for more than 40 years. Alex has practised as an Acoustic Consultant in Newcastle and the Hunter Region for around 15 years, including time as a business owner supporting major infrastructure and development projects across the Hunter and beyond.
He is a long‑standing member of the Australian Acoustical Society, a sessional lecturer at the University of Newcastle, and previously taught within the Diploma of Environmental Monitoring at TAFE NSW. Alex has prepared assessments for a wide range of clients including government agencies, construction contractors, builders and planners.
Beyond consulting, Alex serves as the Chairperson of Reach Newcastle Ltd, a local charity supporting people experiencing homelessness, reflecting his ongoing commitment to the Newcastle community.
Alex’s goal for Acoustic Partners is that clients feel confident picking up the phone, knowing who they’re calling and that their question will be understood in context. He sees the relationship working well when a client rings and the first few minutes feel like reconnecting with a colleague. That sense of partnership is what enriches his practice.

Where We Work
Although we’re Newcastle‑based in the Hunter Region, we regularly deliver projects throughout Australia. Our work combines field measurements with detailed desktop analysis, so travel is only one part of the overall effort.
For projects outside our region, there may be some additional fieldwork costs, but clients consistently tell us the trade‑off is worth it: they get a strong working relationship and direct access to the Principal and owner of the business, not a rotating cast of junior consultants.
